Adult Staff and Nurse Registration


Special Camps is now accepting applications for its all volunteer Speciall Camps program for childrend and adults with intellecdtual disabilities. Staff members must be at least 22 years old by June, 2018. We look forward to meeting you and sharing this tremendously rewarding experience with you, as we (the volunteers) receive as muhc joh, laughter, and fullfillment as our campers.

Located approxmiately 30 minutes west of DeKalb, we rent the White Pines dude ranch in Oregon, Il. It will be a lot of fun for everyone! The ranch offers exceptionally clearn, dorm style camping.

We need adults to serve as volunteer cabin parents, activity leaders, and nurses. As a cabin parent / activity leader you will lead or assist your small group of special needs campers and voulnteer teen souncselors in activites during the day, and sleep in the dorm with us at night. Our nurses dispense fairly large quantities of medications, tend to minor injuries, and play along side our campers. Nurses have their own separate living area. Acitives consit of music, swimming, archery, sports, crafts, gold mining, small critter petting, talent shows, horseback lead arounds and trail rides, and woodworking. Eveings consiste of a variety of fun entertainment and dancing. You do not need to have experience. All volunteers work together with experienced volunteers.

There are two camp sessions:

  • Session 1. Sunday – Friday, June 3-8 for adults over the age of 21.
  • Session 2. Sunday – Friday, June 10-15 for youth

Adult Volunteer Staff Registration

Applicants must be at least 22 years old by June 2018. If you have been convicted of an offense involving the intentional infliction of physical injury upon a child, sexual abuse of a child or child abduction under the laws of this state or any other state, or if you use any illegal drugs you are disqualified from volunteering for Special Camps for Special Citizens. By completing this form, you affirm, under penalty of perjury that the answers to these questions are truthful. Also by completing this form, you consent for a criminal background check to be performed.
