Adult Staff and Nurse Registration

Special Camps is now accepting applications for its all-volunteer Special Camps program for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Staff members must be at least 22 years old by June of 2023. We look forward to meeting you and sharing this tremendously rewarding experience with you, as we (the volunteers) receive as much joy, laughter, and fulfillment as our campers.

New Location will be Camp Red Leaf in Ingleside. Camp Red Leaf is located within Lake County, on the chain-o-lakes area in upper Illinois. Lots of activities will lead ot lots of fun including swimming in a heated pool and lake, fishing, canoes and paddle boats, archery, crafts, yoga, wood working, sports, talent shows, high and low ropes with a climbing wall and a high zip line. Evening parties are the best with campfire songs and skits, parades, games, and dances.

We need adults to serve as volunteer cabin parents, activity leaders, and nurses. As a cabin parent/activity leader you will lead or assist your small group of special needs campers and volunteer teen counselors in activities during the day, and sleep in the dorm with us at night. Our nurses dispense relatively large quantities of medications, tend to minor injuries, and play alongside our campers. Nurses have their own dorm.  You do not need to have experience. All volunteers work together with experienced volunteers.

There are three camp sessions:

  • Session 1. Sunday – Friday, June  2 – 7    for adult campers
  • Session 2. Sunday – Friday, June  9 – 14  for school aged campers
